John Lantigua is an accomplished American author, best known for his crime fiction and thriller novels. Born in the Bronx to a Puerto Rican mother and Cuban father, Lantigua only spoke Spanish during his early years. This linguistic background would later influence his writing, providing him with a unique perspective and voice. When he was four, his family moved to New Jersey, and he began speaking English, which broadened his linguistic abilities.
In addition to his work as a novelist, Lantigua is a Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist, bringing depth and insight to his crime fiction. He has spent much of his career working as a journalist, with the exception of a two-year span where he worked as a mountain guide and taught English and theatre in Mexico. His journalistic background has given him a keen eye for detail and a talent for crafting compelling narratives, making his novels all the more engaging.
Lantigua is also a father of three children and a proud grandfather of two granddaughters. He currently resides in Florida, where he continues to write and create captivating stories. His works have been nominated for prestigious awards, such as the Edgar Award by the Mystery Writers of America and the Shamus Award by the Private Eye Writers of America. Among his most notable creations is the Willie Cuesta Mystery series, set in Miami's Little Havana, which has earned him two International Latino Book Awards for best mystery novel of the year about Latinos.
