John Lutz is an acclaimed American author, well-known for his mystery and suspense novels. Born in Dallas, Texas, in 1939, he currently resides in St. Louis, Missouri, with his wife, Barbara. While Lutz is known to enjoy various hobbies such as reading, watching movies, and dining with friends, he is most recognized for his prolific writing career. Having published his first story in Alfred Hitchcock's Mystery Magazine in 1966, Lutz has since become a prominent figure in the mystery genre, with a writing career spanning over four decades.
Throughout his career, Lutz has written in various mystery sub-genres, including political suspense, private eye novels, urban suspense, humor, occult, crime caper, police procedural, espionage, historical, futuristic, amateur detective, thriller, and almost every mystery sub-genre. His versatile writing style has allowed him to publish more than 50 novels and 250 short stories and articles. Lutz's work has been translated into numerous languages and adapted for various mediums, including film and television.
Lutz has received numerous awards and accolades for his work. He is a past president of both Mystery Writers of America and Private Eye Writers of America. Among his awards are the MWA Edgar, the PWA Shamus, The Trophee 813 Award for best mystery short story collection translated into the French language, the PWA Life Achievement Award, and the Short Mystery Fiction Society's Golden Derringer Lifetime Achievement Award.
Lutz is the author of two private eye series, the Nudger series, set in his hometown of St. Louis, and the Carver series, set in Florida. His novel "SWF SEEKS SAME" was made into the hit movie "SINGLE WHITE FEMALE," and his suspense novel "THE EX" became an HBO original movie of the same title, for which he co-authored the screenplay. Lutz and his wife, Barbara, split their time between St. Louis and Sarasota, Florida. His latest suspense novel is "FEAR THE NIGHT," and his next novel, "CHILL OF NIGHT," will be published in November by Pinnacle.
