Johnny D. Boggs

Johnny D. Boggs is an accomplished American author, born in 1962, who has made a significant impact in the genre of Western novels. Growing up on a farm near Timmonsville, South Carolina, Boggs was exposed to the old stamping grounds of Revolutionary War hero Francis Marion, which would later inspire his frontier novel, "The Despoilers." It was during his formative years that Boggs discovered his passion for writing and his desire to tell stories of the American West and frontier.

Boggs' dedication to his craft is evident in the lengths he goes to find a good story. He has worked cattle, been bucked off horses, shot rapids in a canoe, hiked across mountains and deserts, and traipsed around ghost towns. His commitment to research is equally impressive, as he has spent countless hours poring over microfilm in library archives. These efforts have earned him six Spur Awards from the Western Writers of America and a Western Heritage Wrangler Award from the National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum. Boggs has been hailed by Booklist magazine as "among the best western writers at work today."

In addition to his work as a novelist, Boggs also writes for various magazines, including True West, Wild West, Boys' Life, and Western Art & Architecture. He is a sought-after speaker and lecturer, and he finds time to coach Little League.
