Jordan Belfort is an accomplished American author, renowned for his non-fiction books. Born in New York, Belfort lived a life of luxury and indulgence during his time as a stockbroker, founding the brokerage firm Stratton Oakmont. However, this period of his life was also marked by addiction to drugs and a hard-partying lifestyle. Since 1998, Belfort has reportedly been sober.
Belfort's past is checkered with legal issues, as he was indicted in 1999 for securities fraud and money laundering. As a result of his crimes, he served 22 months in federal prison and was ordered to pay $110 million in restitution. These experiences have undoubtedly shaped Belfort's perspective and have become the basis for his motivational speaking and authoring career.
After serving his time in prison, Belfort has since made a comeback as a motivational speaker and author. During the height of his career, Belfort built the largest sales empire in Wall Street, Stratton Oakmont, in 1990. However, the company was eventually brought down by scandal, intrigue, and fraud. Despite these setbacks, Belfort has used his experiences to teach important life lessons to others.
