Joyce Maynard

Joyce Maynard is a renowned literary fiction author who gained national attention with the publication of her New York Times cover story, "An Eighteen Year Old Looks Back on Life," in 1972. Maynard was a freshman at Yale when her story was published, and it marked the beginning of her successful career as a writer. Since then, she has become a reporter and columnist for The New York Times, a syndicated newspaper columnist, and a regular contributor to numerous national magazines, including O, The Oprah Magazine; Newsweek; and The New York Times Magazine. Maynard has also appeared on various television shows, including Good Morning America and The Today Show.

Maynard is the author of several books of fiction and nonfiction, including the novel "To Die For" and the bestselling memoir "At Home in the World." Her writing has been translated into sixteen languages, and her work has been published in over fifty papers nationwide. In addition to her writing, Maynard is also a fellow at Yaddo and The MacDowell Colony, where she wrote her most recently published novel, "Labor Day." She is also the founder of the Lake Atitlan Writing Workshop in Guatemala, which she established in 2002.

Maynard is a native of New Hampshire and began publishing her stories in magazines when she was just thirteen years old. She is the mother of three grown children and runs workshops in memoir at her home in Lafayette, California. In addition to her work as a writer and writing instructor, Maynard is also a longtime performer with The Moth, a non-profit organization dedicated to the art and craft of storytelling. She has been a fellow at Yaddo and The MacDowell Colony, two prestigious artist colonies in the United States.
