Joey Kelly, who writes under the pen name Julian Michael Carver, is an American writer and documentary film editor. Born in 1992 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, he grew up in the Mt. Vernon area of New Kensington, a Pittsburgh suburb. As a child, Carver was fascinated by dinosaur movies such as Jurassic Park, The Valley of Gwangi, and The Beast From 20,000 Fathoms. This passion for dinosaurs and prehistoric monsters would eventually translate into his adult writing, as he now exclusively writes stories about these subjects. In addition to his love for dinosaurs, Carver also showed an interest in art and drawing as a child, often creating books out of paper and colored pencils.
Carver is known for his works of science fiction and horror and is an Amazon Bestselling Author. He has written the official novelization for the film Freshwater and has also written a short story for the wargaming franchise BattleTech, which was featured in issue #7 of Shrapnel Magazine. Carver also writes a children's book series called The Backpack Dinosaur.
In addition to his work as a writer, Carver is also a member of the International Association of Media Tie-in Writers. He has been nominated for the Scribe Award in 2022 by the IAMTW for his work on the official film novelization for the film Freshwater. Carver's work is described as science-fiction with elements of horror and adventure. He has written for BattleTech, the original game produced by FASA and now licensed by Catalyst Game Labs through Topps. Carver's work has been featured on Ancient Aliens, Roseanne, Forensic Files 2, and The Sinner.
