Julie Wassmer

Julie Wassmer is a successful British television drama writer who later turned to mystery novel writing. Born in London's East End, Wassmer studied at Kingston University before pursuing a variety of jobs. She eventually settled on television script writing, becoming a lead writer for popular British dramas such as "Family Affairs" on Channel 5, ITV's "London's Burning," and the acclaimed "EastEnders" on BBC.

In 2010, Wassmer published her autobiographical novel, "More Than Just Coincidence," which recounts her journey of being reunited with her daughter after losing contact with her since she was a teenager. This novel was highly praised, earning the title of Mumsnet Book of the Year and reaching the top twenty of the Sunday Times Bestselling books for nonfiction. Following her successful memoir, Wassmer ventured into fiction writing with "The Whitstable Pearl Mystery" in 2015, which marked the beginning of her popular Whitstable Pearl Mystery series. The series has been well-received, leading to its option for TV adaptation.

Julie Wassmer currently resides in Whitstable with her husband and two cats. She is an active campaigner for environmental issues, particularly in her fight against fracking. Wassmer's latest book in the Whitstable Pearl Mystery series, "Murder at Mount Ephraim," was released in August 2022, and the second season of the TV series "Whitstable Pearl" is currently in production. As an executive producer, Wassmer is closely involved in the making of the series, which is produced by Buccaneer for the streaming service Acorn TV.
