Juliet Blackwell is a renowned American author who writes under the pen names Juliet Blackwell, Hailey Lind, and Julie Goodson-Lawes. She is best known for her paranormal and cozy mystery novels, which include the Art Lover's Mysteries, Witchcraft Mysteries, and Haunted Home Renovation Mysteries series.
Blackwell was born in Palo Alto, California and spent her childhood in Cupertino, an hour south of San Francisco. Growing up, she indulged in larcenous activities such as stealing apricots and walnuts from the orchards surrounding her kindergarten. Despite growing up in the same area as tech giant Steve Jobs, Blackwell chose a different path. She pursued her interests in reading, painting, learning new languages, and traveling the world instead of entering the tech industry.
Blackwell studied Anthropology and Social Work at the SUNY-Albany and later went on to work as a social worker, teacher, and field project worker around the world. She also worked on a BBC production in the Philippines. After having a child, she moved back to California and began painting for a living before turning to writing.
Blackwell's writing is influenced by her background in anthropology and social work. She has a fascination with other cultural systems and has studied the religions, folklore, and medical beliefs of peoples around the world, especially in Latin America. This fascination is evident in her Witchcraft Mystery series, which explores the world of witchcraft and the supernatural.
In addition to her successful writing career, Blackwell is also a professional artist and ran her own mural/faux finish design studio in Oakland for over a decade. She specializes in the aesthetic renovation of historic homes. Blackwell is also an active member of the writing community, serving as past president of Northern California Sisters in Crime and former board member of Mystery Writers of America.
Blackwell currently resides in Northern California with her son and a cat named Oscar. She enjoys spending time in Europe and Latin America, and believes in the magic of language, travel, and cultural exchange to open hearts, minds, and souls.
