Kara LaReau is a distinguished American author, best known for her work in children's literature. She was born and raised in Connecticut, and pursued her passion for writing by earning a Master's degree in Fine Arts in Writing, Literature, and Publishing from Emerson College in Boston, Massachusetts. Before becoming an author, LaReau worked as an editor at Candlewick Press and Scholastic Press, where she played a significant role in editing celebrated titles such as Kate DiCamillo’s Because of Winn-Dixie, The Tale of Despereaux, The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane, and the Mercy Watson series.
LaReau's writing career took off after she spent many years working as an editor. She has written several highly acclaimed books, including picture books like UGLY FISH and OTTO: The Boy Who Loved Cars, both illustrated by Scott Magoon, and NO SLURPING, NO BURPING! A Tale of Table Manners, illustrated by Lorelay Bové. She is also the author of The Infamous Ratsos, a chapter book series illustrated by Matt Myers, and the upcoming middle-grade trilogy The Unintentional Adventures of the Bland Sisters, illustrated by Jen Hill. LaReau's work is well-loved by children and adults alike, and her ability to create engaging and memorable characters has established her as a prominent figure in children's literature. She currently resides in Providence, Rhode Island, with her husband, their son, and their cat.
