Karma Wilson is a bestselling author of children's fiction and picture books, who grew up in a single mother household in the wilds of North Idaho. Her mother, who believed in her potential for success, named her Karma, with the hope that she would become a great person. As a child, Wilson had limited access to television and spent most of her time reading or playing outdoors. She developed a love for fantasy and historical fiction, which has persisted throughout her life.
Wilson never considered writing as a profession, as her mother was a professional writer, and it seemed like mundane work to her. However, her love for children's literature was rekindled when she became a wife and mother of three young children. She started writing for children at the age of 27, with the aim of putting a few more good books on the library shelves and paying off the computer she had recently purchased. After facing numerous rejections and three years of hard work, Wilson was finally accepted by book agent Steven Malk. Her first book, "Bear Snores On," was released in 2002, and since then, she has had more than 30 books accepted for publication.
Wilson's books have received numerous state and national awards, been translated into dozens of languages, and a few have made an appearance on the New York Times bestseller list. She writes humorous, rhythmic picture books for the very young and humorous and wistful poetry for the primary grades. Wilson currently resides in NW Montana with her husband, three children, two dogs, two chickens, and one cat. She is passionate about literacy and hopes that her books bring joy to children and families everywhere, encouraging them to think about and explore their world, embrace creativity, and love learning.
