Kate Klimo

Kate Klimo is a highly respected American author, renowned for her work in children's books and nonfiction novels. From a young age, Klimo was passionate about writing and storytelling, with a particular interest in fantasy. She was born and raised in Iowa, where she spent her childhood among the cornfields and developed a fascination with the magical and the impossible. As a child, she believed that fish could swim through the snowbanks in the winter, a testament to her vivid imagination and love for fantasy.

After moving to Sea Cliff on Long Island Sound, Klimo met her best friend Justine in the library, and together they embarked on a quest to find portals to magical worlds. They spent hours reading and discussing the works of C.S. Lewis, E. Nesbit, Edward Eager, and George MacDonald, further fueling Klimo's passion for fantasy and storytelling. With her propensity for magical thinking and love of fantasy, it's no surprise that Klimo grew up to work in the book business. She spent over 25 years as a publisher at Random House Children's Books before becoming a full-time author.

Klimo's writing career has been marked by her ability to create vivid and imaginative worlds that capture the hearts and minds of her readers. She is perhaps best known for her Dragon Keepers and Dog Diaries series, both of which have been highly successful. When writing a book, Klimo tries to write it as a whole without thinking from the perspective of a publisher, instead focusing on creating a compelling story that will resonate with her readers. She feels a sense of relief and gratitude whenever one of her books is published, knowing that her hard work has paid off and that her story will now be shared with a wider audience.

In addition to her work as a children's book author, Klimo has also written young adult novels under the pen name Bonnie Worth. She currently lives in New Paltz, New York, with her husband and two horses, where she continues to write and create magical worlds for her readers to explore.
