Kate Mosse is an accomplished English author, known for her work in historical, supernatural, and gothic fiction and non-fiction. She was born in October 1961 and grew up in West Sussex, England. Mosse pursued her higher education at Oxford University, where she studied English. In addition to her writing, she is also a broadcaster for the BBC.
Mosse is the co-founder of the prestigious Orange Prize for Fiction and the Orange Award for New Writers. She is also a dedicated educator and teaches creative writing at West Dean College alongside her husband, Greg. Her passion for literature is further demonstrated by her role as the Co-Founder and Chair of the Board of the Baileys Women’s Prize for Fiction. In 2013, Mosse was awarded an OBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours List for her services to literature.
Mosse has achieved significant commercial success as an author, with international sales of her books exceeding five million copies in 42 languages. Some of her most popular works include "Labyrinth," "Sepulchre," "The Winter Ghosts," and "Citadel," as well as a collection of short stories titled "The Mistletoe Bride & Other Haunting Tales." Her latest novel, "The Taxidermist's Daughter," was released in 2013. Mosse's writing is not limited to fiction, as she has also authored non-fiction titles such as "The House: Behind the Scenes at the Royal Opera House" and "Chichester Festival Theatre at Fifty." She currently lives in Sussex.
One of Mosse's most notable works is "Labyrinth," which has been translated into over 37 languages. She is also known for her Gothic Fiction novels, including "The Winter Ghosts" and "The Taxidermist’s Daughter," which she is currently adapting for film and stage. Her latest novel, "The Burning Chambers," was published in May 2018 and marks the beginning of an epic historical adventure series. Mosse is also involved in various cultural and artistic organizations, including serving as the host of the pre/post show interview series at the Chichester Festival Theatre and being a member of the Executive Committee of Women of the World. She is also the Founder Director of the Women’s Prize for Fiction and Deputy Chair of the Royal National Theatre.
