Katie Kitamura

Katiem Kitamura is a highly acclaimed literary fiction author, art critic, and journalist. She is best known for her novel "A Separation," but she has also written two other novels, "Gone to the Forest" and "The Longshot," both of which were finalists for the New York Public Library's Young Lions Fiction Award. Kitamura was born in Japan and grew up in both Japan and California. She currently spends much of her time in New York and London.

Kitamura received her undergraduate degrees from Princeton University and then went on to earn her MRes PhD from the University of London. She is currently an Honorary Research Fellow at the London Consortium. As a journalist, she has written for several publications, including The New York Times, The Guardian, Wired, and Frieze. Her debut novel, "Japanese for Travellers," was published in 2006.

In addition to her work in the newsroom, Kitamura has also worked as a creative consultant for the Channel 4 Television commissioned documentary series "The Pervert's Guide To Cinema." She was also a recipient of a Lannan Foundation fellowship. Her novel "Gone to the Forest" was named a best book of the year by several publications, including the San Francisco Chronicle, Financial Times, Times Literary Supplement, and New Yorker online. Kitamura's third novel, "A Separation," was published in 2017.
