Kay Hooper is an accomplished American author, best known for her romance and romantic suspense novels. She was born in a California air force base hospital, as her father was stationed there at the time. Soon after her birth, the family moved back to North Carolina, where Kay was raised and attended school. As the oldest of three children, she has a brother two years younger and a sister seven years younger.
Before discovering her passion for writing, Hooper tried taking business classes, which she found uninteresting. She then switched to literature and history, which reignited her interest in becoming an author. She received a typewriter for Christmas and began writing her first novel, a Regency romance titled "Lady Thief," which she sold to Dell Publishing in 1980. Since then, Hooper has written over 60 novels and four novellas.
Hooper is the author of the Bishop/Special Crime Unit series. She currently resides in North Carolina, where she leads a relatively private life, sharing her home with a flock of cats and two friendly dogs. She is known to favor a solitary lifestyle, living and writing in a small North Carolina town, away from the limelight. Despite her fame, little is known about her personal life, as she only reveals what she chooses to. Hooper is single and enjoys the company of her many pets, who often keep her company while she writes.
