Kenneth N. Taylor was a prolific author, publisher, and translator best known for making biblical texts accessible to readers of all ages. His most influential work, "The Living Bible," a paraphrase of the Scriptures, has sold over 40 million copies since its publication in 1971. He also authored beloved children's books such as "The Bible in Pictures for Little Eyes" and "Stories for the Children's Hour," which remain popular across generations. "My First Bible in Pictures" earned a place on "Publishers Weekly"'s list of "All-Time Best-Selling Children's Books" in 2001.
Taylor's career was driven by a mission to clarify biblical language, inspired by his ten children's struggles with traditional translations. As the founder of Tyndale House Publishers, he championed thought-for-thought translations, culminating in the 1996 "Holy Bible," New Living Translation, developed with 90 scholars. His philanthropic efforts included donating royalties from "The Living Bible" to global ministries and establishing Living Bibles International to distribute modern translations worldwide. Recognized with 30 honors, including four honorary doctorates, Taylor's legacy endures through Tyndale House's continued impact as a leading evangelical publisher. He passed away in June 2005 at age 88.
