In 2005, Tombs moved to central Brittany in France, before returning to the UK in 2010, where he settled in Ludlow in Shropshire with his family. He is married and has a son, Samuel Tombs, who is an award-winning economist with Pantheon Macroeconomics. Tombs' novels, including 'The Malvern Murders', 'The Worcester Whisperers', 'The Ledbury Lamplighters', 'The Tewkesbury Tomb', 'The Droitwich Deceivers', 'The Pershore Poisoners', 'The Upton Undertakers', 'The Herefordshire Hangmen', 'The Bromsgrove Bookseller; Ravenscroft's Christmas', and 'Ravenscroft's Last Case', are all set in various locations in the Three Counties surrounding the Malvern Hills in Worcestershire, England.
