Kim Stanley Robinson

Kim Stanley Robinson is an acclaimed American author, well-known for his works in science fiction and alternate history. He has written a number of influential series, including the Three Californias, Mars, and Capital Code (or Science in the Capital) trilogies. Robinson's novels often explore themes of ecology and capitalism, and are recognized for their anti-capitalist stance.

Born in Waukegan, Illinois on March 23, 1952, Robinson earned his B.A. in literature from the University of California, San Diego, and went on to earn his M.A. in English from Boston University. He then returned to UC San Diego to complete his PhD. In addition to his series, Robinson has written numerous standalone novels and short stories.

Throughout his career, Robinson has received many prestigious awards for his work, including the British Science Fiction Association Award, World Fantasy Award, Nebula, Ignotus Award, Seiun Award, Hugo, John W. Campbell Award for Best Science Fiction Novel, and Locus Awards (which he has won six times). His writing has been described as "literary science fiction" by reviewers.

Robinson is also known for his deep interest in science, which is often reflected in his novels. He has a lifelong fascination with Mars, which led him to become a member of the Mars Society. In addition, Robinson has been sent to Antarctica by the U.S. National Science Foundation as part of their Antarctic Artists and Writers' Program. He currently resides in California with his wife, environmental chemist Lisa Howland Nowell, and their two sons.
