Laura Jensen Walker is an accomplished and award-winning author who has written more than twenty books, including both fiction and non-fiction. She first fell in love with words as a child, leading her to dream of becoming a writer. This dream became a reality when she published her first book at the age of forty. Walker's writing is known for its humor, which is a common thread that runs through all of her work.
Walker has a particular fondness for mysteries, having been an avid fan since reading her first Trixie Belden book in the fourth grade. Recently, she has returned to writing mystery novels, with two cozy mystery series under her belt. The first is the Bookish Baker Mystery series, set in Lake Potawatomi, Wisconsin, featuring baker, writer, and breast-cancer survivor Teddie St. John and her American Eskimo dog Gracie. The second is the Faith Chapel Mystery series, set in rural Northern California, featuring movie-loving Episcopal priest Pastor Hope Taylor and her Black Lab Bogie. Walker has also written about her experiences as a breast cancer survivor in her book "Thanks for the Mammogram!"
Walker's personal experiences have greatly influenced her writing. She lived in Oxfordshire, England for three years, which sparked her love for all things English. She has since incorporated this love into her writing, such as in her historical novel "Death of a Flying Nightingale" (September 2024), which tells the story of an overlooked group of WWII RAF women. Walker currently resides in Northern California, where she lives in a wannabe-English cottage with her Renaissance-man husband and their canine daughter, Mellie. She is a member of Sisters in Crime and Mystery Writers of America.
