Laurie Loewenstein

Laurie Loewenstein is a highly regarded American author, well-known for her works in the fiction, thriller, crime, mystery, historical fiction, feminism, and historical mystery genres. She was born and raised in central and western Ohio and is a fifth-generation Midwesterner, with roots in farming, butchery, and sales. Loewenstein has a BA and MA in history and has worked as a reporter, feature writer, and obituary writer for several small daily newspapers. In her fifties, she returned to college to pursue an MA in Creative Writing.

Loewenstein's debut novel, "Unmentionables" (2013), was widely recognized for its unique story, engaging characters, intriguing plot, and interesting writing style. The book received a starred review from the Library Journal and was selected as a Midwest Connections pick. After the success of her first novel, Loewenstein went on to write a mystery series set in the 1930s Dust Bowl. The first book in the series, "Death of a Rainmaker" (October 2018), received a starred review from Publishers Weekly. The second book in the series, "Funeral Train" was released in October 2022.

In addition to her work as an author, Loewenstein is also an instructor at Wilkes University’s Maslow Family Graduate Program in Creative Writing where she co-teaches Research for Writers and coordinates the Writing Resource Center. She has lived in eastern Pennsylvania for many years, but currently resides in South Carolina.
