Leann Sweeney is a successful American author, well-known for her cozy mystery novels. She has written two series, the Yellow Rose Mysteries and the Cats in Trouble Mysteries. Sweeney was born in Niagara Falls and spent her childhood there. She received her education from St. Joseph's Hospital and Lemoyne College in Syracuse, New York. Later, she went on to earn a degree in behavioral science from the University of Houston.
Before turning to writing full-time, Sweeney worked in psychiatry and as a school nurse. She began taking writing classes in 1980 and became a member of the Mystery Writers of America and Sisters in Crime. Sweeney is a married woman with two adult children and grandchildren.
Sweeney has written a total of thirteen cozy mysteries, with five books in the Yellow Rose Mystery Series and eight in the Cats in Trouble Mysteries. She is currently working on the ninth book in the series, following a three-year illness after a fall. Both series have been published by Berkley, and several of her titles have made the New York Times bestseller list.
Sweeney has been writing for over twenty years and feels fortunate to have made a career out of it. She has often worked on her writing late into the night, after finishing her day job as a nurse, wife, and mother. Her books are known as "gentle mysteries," and her towns are filled with characters that she finds interesting, even if she doesn't always like them. She ensures that there is justice in the end and that no animals are harmed in her stories, only rescued. Sweeney hopes that her readers can escape into one of her stories and enjoy the experience.
