Leanna Renee Hieber is an accomplished American author, actress, artist, and playwright, who was born in 1970 in Ohio, USA. She has a BFA in Theatre and a focus on the Victorian Era, and she received a scholarship to study in London. Hieber's passion for the 19th Century literature is evident in her work, as she adapted it for the stage and wrote several books that have gained international recognition. Her one-act plays have been produced across the country, and she has won four Prism Awards for excellence in Futuristic, Fantasy, or Paranormal Romance.
Hieber's debut novel, "The Strangely Beautiful Tale of Miss Percy Parker," was the first in the "Strangely Beautiful" saga of Gothic Victorian Fantasy novels, which won two 2010 Prism Awards and has been hailed as a "foundation work of Gaslamp Fantasy." The series includes the prequel, "Perilous Prophecy," and the never-before-published "Miss Violet and the Great War," which finishes the quartet. Her other notable works include "Darker Still: A Novel of Magic Most Foul," which was named an Indie Next title by the American Book Association and a Scholastic book fair "Highly Recommended" title, and "The Eterna Files" trilogy of Gaslamp Fantasy novels. Her new series with Kensington's new Rebel Base imprint, "The Spectral City," became a #1 Amazon bestseller in Gaslamp Fantasy, Steampunk and Metaphysical Fantasy.
Hieber's short fiction has been included in anthologies such as "Queen Victoria's Book of Spells" and "The Mammoth Book of Gaslamp Romance." She is a member of the Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America, Mystery Writers of America, and the International Thriller Writers, and she is a proud co-founder of Lady Jane's Salon Reading Series in New York City. She has also worked in film and television, appearing on shows like "Boardwalk Empire" and "Mysteries at the Museum." In addition, Hieber works as a ghost tour guide for Boroughs of the Dead tour company and creates unique neo-Victorian and Steampunk jewelry on Etsy. In 2018, she wrote, developed, and toured a one-woman show "By the Light of Tiffany: A Meeting with Clara Driscoll" about the talented 19th century artist. She has also been featured on film and television on shows like "Mysteries at the Museum" and "Beyond the Unknown" discussing Victorian Spiritualism. Hieber is an enthusiastic public lecturer, speaking at major conventions and notable institutions around the country about the intersections of women's history and the paranormal. She currently resides in New York and leads ghost tours for Boroughs of the Dead.
