Linda Greenlaw is a bestselling author who has made a name for herself through her maritime-themed works. She is notable for being the only female swordfishing captain on the East Coast. Greenlaw gained recognition when she was featured in the novel, Perfect Storm, as well as its 2000 film adaptation. Currently, she captains the Hannah Boden, a boat that was featured in Swords; Life on the Line on the Discovery Channel. Prior to this, Greenlaw took over the Seahawk after the captain passed away aboard the boat.
Greenlaw has authored three best-selling books that focus on commercial fishing: The Hungry Ocean, published in 1999, The Lobster Chronicles, published in 2002, and All Fishermen are Liars, also published in 2002. These works have been successful, with some of them reaching as high as the number two spot on the New York Times bestseller list. Greenlaw's writing has earned her several awards, including the U.S. Maritime Literature Award in 2003 and the New England Book Award for nonfiction in 2004. She has also been featured on various television shows and radio programs, including Good Morning America, Today, CBS Sunday Morning, The Martha Stewart Show, and National Public Radio.
In addition to her nonfiction works, Greenlaw has also ventured into fiction, writing the Jane Bunker Mystery series. The first book in the series, Slipknot, was published in 2011, and it features marine investigator Jane Bunker. Greenlaw's deep knowledge of the sea and her ability to capture the details of Maine village life have been well-received by readers. Her fiction writing has been praised for its sharp wit, compelling storytelling, and authentic characters. Greenlaw currently resides on Isle au Haut, Maine, where she captains a lobster boat.
