Liu Cixin is a Chinese author who has gained international recognition for his work in the science fiction genre. He was born on June 23, 1963, in Yangquan, Shanxi province, People's Republic of China, and was trained at the North China University of Water Conservancy and Electric power. After graduating in 1988, Liu began working as a computer engineer for a local power plant.
Liu Cixin is a representative of the new generation of Chinese science fiction authors and is recognized as a leading voice in Chinese science fiction. He has received numerous awards for his work, including the China Galaxy Science Fiction Award for eight consecutive years, from 1999 to 2006 and again in 2010. His representative work, The Three-Body Problem, is the recipient of the 2015 Hugo Award, and was a finalist for the 2015 Campbell Award, as well as a nominee for the 2015 Nebulas Award. Liu's stories are known for their powerful atmosphere, brilliant imagination, and unique Chinese style. He has made a significant contribution to the science fiction genre, and his works have received wide acclaim for their ability to combine the ephemeral with hard reality, while also revealing the essence and aesthetics of science. Liu Cixin is a member of the China Writers' Association and the Shanxi Writers' Association.
