Liz Carlyle is the pen name of the American author Susan Tatum Woodhouse, who was born in Suffolk, Virginia. She developed an interest in writing at an early age and went on to study journalism in college, thanks to a Scripps Howard writing scholarship. Carlyle is married to Edward Carlyle and has two stepchildren.
In her own words, Liz Carlyle is a "dull, introverted homebody" who writes historical romance novels to live out her fantasies vicariously. She came to writing later in life and is still amazed that she can earn a living by doing something she loves. Carlyle strives to tell a good story and entertain her readers, while also aiming to write with a "hot iron" and capture the heat of the story as it unfolds.
Despite her love for the 19th century, Liz Carlyle resides in Cary, North Carolina, with her husband, a corporate attorney, and their four cats. When she's not writing, Carlyle enjoys traveling to London and exploring its damp, dark alleys and low public houses. She always packs her pearls, dancing slippers, and whalebone corset, hoping to receive an invitation to a ball or a rout. Unfortunately, such an invitation has yet to materialize.
