Liza Marklund is a highly acclaimed author of Scandinavian crime fiction and thriller novels, as well as a journalist. She was born in 1962 in the small village of Pålmark, close to the Arctic Circle in Sweden. Marklund has written eleven novels and two nonfiction books, and is best known for her Annika Bengtzon series. She has sold more than 13 million copies of her books worldwide, which have been translated into 30 languages.
In addition to her writing, Marklund is an active journalist and columnist. She worked as an investigative news reporter for ten years and as an editor in print and television news for five. Today, she also makes documentaries for television and writes for various newspapers, often focusing on women and children’s rights. Marklund is also a popular columnist, with her columns appearing in various Swedish and international newspapers and magazines. She is a regular columnist in Swedish tabloid Expressen and Norwegian daily Verdens Gang.
Marklund is also a co-owner of Piratförlaget, one of Sweden’s most successful publishing houses. She co-wrote the international bestseller The Postcard Killers with James Patterson, making her the second Swedish author ever to reach No. 1 on the New York Times bestseller list. Marklund's success as an author has led to her books being sold around the world in different languages and being turned into films, making her a #1 best-selling International author. She currently lives in Spain with her husband Mikael.
