Lori Matthews is an award-winning author who has a deep love for books and writing. She grew up in a household in Nova Scotia, Canada that was filled with readers and books, providing her with a wide range of literary influences from a young age. Matthews' mother was an avid romance reader, while her father preferred thrillers, and this exposure to different genres helped shape her writing style.
Matthews' passion for reading and writing began in her childhood, where she has fond memories of reading in the same room with her mother and sisters, arguing about whose turn it was to make tea. No one wanted to put their book down! She was introduced to romance novels because of her mother's habit of leaving books all over the house, and her love for the genre only grew from there. She went on to discover mystery novels, with Agatha Christie being a particular favorite, and then suspense with Wilber Smith and Ian Fleming. Matthews loved the thought of combining her favorite genres, and during high school, she attempted to write her first romantic suspense novel.
After a few years, and after earning two degrees, starting a career as a librarian, getting married, and having two kids, Matthews attended a workshop in Tuscany that rekindled her love for writing. Since then, she has been pounding the keyboard, creating stories that start with a bang and keep going with plenty of action, and a side of hot romance. Matthews currently lives in New Jersey with her husband, two children, a crazy dog, and a cranky cat. She is a true product of her upbringing and writes what she calls romantic thrillers. Her work has won or been a finalist more than a dozen times in various contests, including being a three-time Kiss of Death Daphne winner for her Callahan Security series. She loves to hear from her readers and can be reached through her website, newsletter, or social media channels.
