She was born in Glens Falls, New York, in 1957 and was given the name Marie Lorena Moore, but was nicknamed Lorrie by her parents. Her work is known to be full of wit, wisecracks, pithy one-liners, and repartee. She has received numerous accolades for her writing, including a Lannan Foundation fellowship and the PEN/Malamud Award for her achievement in the short story. Moreover, she is a member of the American Academy of Arts and Letters.
