Lynn Brittney, born on March 5, 1953, in London, United Kingdom, is a seasoned writer with almost three decades of experience. She has written numerous adult and children's non-fiction books, as well as plays for both children and adults that have been performed worldwide.
Brittney's writing career began with her work as a journalist on trade and business magazines. Alongside this, she also worked part-time as a drama teacher and started writing plays for children, young adults, and older actors. These plays are now published by Playstage Junior, Playstage YA, and Playstage Senior. When her son was a teenager, Brittney noticed that teachers were having difficulty engaging their students with Shakespeare. In response, she wrote a series of young adult novels set in Elizabethan England, featuring espionage, action, and Shakespearian plots. The Nathan Fox books were well-received and nominated for several awards, including the Waterstone’s Book Prize and the Brandford Boase Award. To complement these novels, Brittney also wrote fact books titled The Elizabethan World of Nathan Fox, which have become valuable resources in English-speaking schools globally.
In 2017, Brittney embarked on a new project, creating a series of period murder mysteries known as the Mayfair 100 series. Set in London during WW1, the series features a secret team of professional policemen and educated women working together to solve crimes. The team is based in Mayfair, an upper-class area of London, and Mayfair 100 is their telephone number. The first book in the series, A Murder in Belgravia, was published in the UK by Mirror Books in 2018, with the second book following in 2019. The American version of Book 1 was published by Crooked Lane Books in March 2019. In 2019, the second murder mystery in the Mayfair 100 series, A Death in Chelsea, was published by Mirror Books in the UK and by Crooked Lane in the USA. During the 2020 lockdown, Brittney decided to try something new and wrote a series of three small books called Gifts From Your Garden. These books, published by Iris Books of London, combine her hobbies and skills, providing recipes, instructions, and tips on how to use everything grown in the garden to create gifts for friends and family.
