Nathan Dylan Goodwin is an English author, genealogist, and educator, best known for his Forensic Genealogist series. He was born and raised in Hastings, East Sussex, and attended school there before pursuing a Bachelor of Arts degree in Radio, Film and Television Studies, followed by a Master of Arts degree in Creative Writing at Canterbury Christ Church University.
Goodwin's passion for writing and genealogy can be traced back to his childhood. As a teenager, he developed an interest in family history after his grandmother showed him her collection of scrapbooks and family photographs. He found it fascinating and enjoyable, and as he grew older, he turned this passion into a career. Goodwin launched his career as an author of nonfiction when he published "Hastings at War" in 2005. He also published several other historical works about Hastings before making his fiction debut with "Hiding the Past," the first book in the Forensic Genealogist series, in 2013.
Goodwin's Forensic Genealogist series features Morton Farrier, a forensic genealogist who uses his skills to solve crimes and uncover family secrets. The series has been well-received by critics and readers alike, and Goodwin has since published several other books in the series, including "The Lost Ancestor," "The Orange Lilies," "The America Ground," "The Spyglass File," "The Missing Man," "The Suffragette's Secret," "The Wicked Trade," "The Sterling Affair," and "The Deserter's Tale." In addition to the Forensic Genealogist series, Goodwin has also written a second series called Ghost Swifts, Blue Poppies and the Red Star - Mrs McDougall Investigates and a third series, Venator Cold Case Series.
As a qualified teacher and member of several genealogical societies, Goodwin is well-versed in the field of genealogy. He uses his expertise to create engaging and informative stories that combine the thrill of crime-solving with the intrigue of family history. Goodwin currently lives in Kent with his husband, son, dog, and an assortment of chickens. He enjoys running, skiing, reading, theatre, and traveling in his free time.
