Nick Brown was born in Norwich in 1974 and grew up in Norfolk. From a young age, he developed a love for reading, starting with Enid Blyton and moving on to Douglas Hill, JRR Tolkien, Ian Fleming, Michael Crichton, and C.J. Sansom. After completing his education in Brighton, he traveled to Nepal, where he worked at an orphanage and trekked to Mount Everest. Upon returning, he qualified as a history teacher in 2000 and taught in England for five years before moving to an international school in Warsaw.
Brown's passion for reading and writing led him to complete several screenplays and a futuristic thriller before turning to historical fiction. The idea for his successful "Agent of Rome" series came after reading C.J. Sansom's "Dissolution." He spent a significant amount of time researching the Roman army and third-century life to create a unique protagonist, Cassius, who is a somewhat atypical hero. Brown's writing process involves many drafts to perfect the story, and when he's not writing, he enjoys going to the cinema, socializing in pubs, and playing football.
Nick Brown is a successful author of historical fiction, particularly known for his "Agent of Rome" series. The first book, "The Siege," was published in 2011, followed by "The Imperial Banner," "The Far Shore," "The Black Stone," "The Emperor's Silver," and "The Earthly Gods." He has also released several short ebooks featuring characters from the "Agent of Rome" series, as well as a collection of science fiction tales titled "Dead Eyes." In 2018, he published a fantasy novel called "Marik's Way," and in 2019, the final "Agent of Rome" novel, "The Last Battle." In 2023, he released "Agent of Rome: Tarchon," the first book in a spinoff series set in third-century Byzantium and beyond.
