Nick Mamatas is a renowned author, born on Long Island, New York, on February 20, 1972. He pursued his higher education at the State University of New York at Stony Brook, Western Connecticut State University, and New School University. Before completing his MFA program in professional and creative writing from Western Connecticut State University, Mamatas had already established himself as a published author of numerous short stories, articles, and books.
Mamatas is best known for his Lovecraftian Beat road novel, "Move Under Ground," which received nominations for both the Bram Stoker and International Horror Guild awards. His other notable works include "Northern Gothic," a Civil War ghost story, and the suburban nightmare novel, "Under My Roof." His short stories, collected in "3000 Miles Per Hour in Every Direction at Once," have been published in various magazines and anthologies, such as "Razor," "Village Voice," "Spex," "Clamor," "In These Times," "Polyphony," and "Disinformation and Ben Bella Books anthologies." He has also contributed to books like "Corpse Blossoms," "Poe's Lighthouse," "Before & After: Stories from New York," and "Short and Sweet."
In addition to his work as an author, Mamatas is also an accomplished editor, having co-edited the Bram Stoker Award-winning anthology "Haunted Legends" with Ellen Datlow. He has edited various other anthologies, such as "The Urban Bizarre," "Phantom #0," "Spicy Slipstream Stories," "The Future Is Japanese," "Phantasm Japan," and "Hanzai Japan." Mamatas was once the editor of the magazine "Clarkesworld" and is currently the fiction editor for "StarShipSofa." He has also worked as the co-editor of the Locus Award nominee "The Future Is Japanese" and "Phantasm Japan" with Masumi Washington. He is currently editing manga and the occasional novel for Seven Seas Entertainment. Living in the California Bay Area, Mamatas continues to contribute to the literary world as a prolific author and editor.
