Nicole Alexander is an Australian author who has made a significant impact in the genre of historical fiction. Born and raised in the northwest plains of New South Wales, she spent her childhood on a sprawling rural property that has been in her family for generations. This remote and historic location served as the backdrop for many of her stories and inspired her love for Australian pastoral history.
Alexander's early education was primarily home-schooled, but she later attended a local primary school and then a boarding school in Sydney. She went on to earn a Bachelor's degree in Arts from the University of New England. Her writing career began with poetry, travel, and genealogy articles, which were published in various countries including Singapore, Australia, America, Germany, Ukraine, Russia, Canada, and New Zealand.
Nicole Alexander is a best-selling author of more than ten historical fiction books. Some of her most notable works include "The Bark Cutters," "A Changing Land," "Absolution Creek," "The Great Plains," "Sunset Ridge," "Wild Lands," "Stone Country," "The Cedar Tree," "River Run," "An Uncommon Woman," and her latest release, "The Last Station" (March 2022). Her debut novel, "The Bark Cutters," was shortlisted for the 2011 Australian Book Industry Award.
In addition to her novels, Alexander has also published poetry and non-fiction works. Her poetry collection, "Divertissements: Love. War. Society.", was included in the anthology "Dear Mum / Great Australian Writers". She has a Master's degree in creative writing and her writing has been published in several countries, including Australia, America, Germany, Singapore, Russia, and the Ukraine. Alexander continues to reside in north-west NSW, Australia, where she draws inspiration for her writing from the region's rich history and pastoral landscapes.
