Nina George

Nina George is a highly respected German journalist and author, who has achieved a significant level of success in a relatively short amount of time. Born in Bielefeld, Germany in 1973, George has published 26 books, over hundred short stories, and more than 600 columns. She has worked as a cop reporter, columnist, and managing editor for a variety of publications, including Hamburger Abendblatt, Die Welt, Der Hamburger, politik und kultur, TV Movie, and Federwelt.

George's novels are known for their universal appeal, and she has found herself atop the best-seller lists, with her books being translated for a worldwide audience. She also writes under a few pseudonyms, including Anne West and Jean Bagnol, for various different markets and audiences. In 2012 and 2013, George won the DeLiA and the Glauser-Prize, and she had her first bestselling book, Das Lavendelzimmer, translated into 27 languages and sold more than 500,000 copies.

In addition to her work as an author, George is an active advocate for the rights of authors, artists, and entertainers. In 2011, she established the "JA zum Urheberrecht" (YES on Author’s Rights) initiative, which supports the rights of authors and is dedicated to resolving issues within the literary community as well as establishing fair and practical rights-license models for the web-distribution. George also supports the “Initiative Urheberrecht” and the “gib 8 aufs Wort”-campaign of the VG Wort.

George is a member of several professional organizations, including PEN, Das Syndikat, the Association of German Authors (VS), the Hamburg Authors’ Association (HAV), BücherFrauen, the International Association of Crime Writers, the GEDOK, PRO QUOTE, and Lean In. She sits on the board of the Three Seas Writers’ and Translaters’ Council, whose members come from 16 different countries. George teaches writing, moderates readings, and works as a speaker. She lives in the Hamburger Grindelviertel.
