Nnedi Okorafor

Nnedi Okorafor is a highly acclaimed author of science fiction and fantasy. She has won numerous awards for her work, including the World Fantasy Award for Best Novel for "Who Fears Death" and an Amazon.com Best Book of the Year for "Akata Witch." Born in the United States to two Nigerian immigrant parents, Okorafor's writing is deeply rooted in her African heritage. She has coined the terms "africanfuturism" and "africanjujuism" to describe the unique blend of African culture and magical realism present in her work.

In addition to her original novels, Okorafor has also contributed to established franchises such as Star Wars. Her writing spans across multiple formats, including graphic novels, novellas, and young adult fiction. Some of her notable works include "Lagoon," "Kabu Kabu," "Zahrah the Windseeker," and "The Shadow Speaker." Her adult novel "The Book of Phoenix," a prequel to "Who Fears Death," was released in 2015 to critical acclaim.

Okorafor is a New York Times Bestselling writer and has been a finalist for the British Science Fiction Association Award for Best Novel. She holds a PhD in literature/creative writing and is an associate professor at the University at Buffalo, New York. She currently resides in Phoenix, Arizona with her daughter Anyaugo.
