Orson Welles

Orson Welles was an American filmmaker, actor, and theater director renowned for his groundbreaking contributions to cinema, radio, and stage. Best known for his masterpiece "Citizen Kane," widely regarded as one of the greatest films ever made, Welles also directed other acclaimed works such as "The Magnificent Ambersons," "The Lady from Shanghai," and "Touch of Evil." His 1938 radio adaptation of "The War of the Worlds" catapulted him to fame, sparking widespread intrigue for its realistic portrayal of an alien invasion.

Welles was celebrated for his innovative directorial style, which featured nonlinear storytelling, deep-focus cinematography, and dramatic lighting techniques. His career was marked by a persistent struggle for creative autonomy, often clashing with studio executives, which led to several of his projects being altered or shelved. Beyond filmmaking, he was a distinguished stage actor, particularly in Shakespearean roles, and a skilled magician. Recognized as one of the most influential directors in history, Welles was voted the greatest film director of all time in a 2002 British Film Institute poll. His distinctive baritone voice and commanding presence also cemented his legacy as a formidable actor.
