Sam Kates

Sam Kates is a science fiction and fantasy author who was born in Cardiff, United Kingdom. He has a deep-seated appreciation for rugby union, although these days he only enjoys watching the games, rather than participating in them. In addition to his love of rugby, Kates also enjoys a good pint of beer, often combining the two as a spectator.

Kates' passion for the darker side of life and the fantastic is reflected in his writing, which primarily consists of science fiction and fantasy with a distinctly dark tone. Alternatively, he writes horror fiction. His works are a reflection of his taste in reading and film, which also tends to lean towards the darker and more fantastic elements of life.

Outside of his writing, Kates has a lofty ambition to see his home country of Wales defeat the New Zealand All Blacks and win the Rugby World Cup. Although he acknowledges that this is a remote possibility, he believes that it is important to have ambitious goals.
