Santa Montefiore is a British-Argentine author best known for her romantic thrillers and sweeping historical sagas. With over twenty-six novels published, her works include stand-alone titles such as "The Last Voyage of the Valentina" and "The Italian Matchmaker," as well as the popular "Deverill Chronicles" series, which spans six books set in Ireland from 1910 to the 1960s. Her novels, often set in picturesque locations like Argentina, Italy, and France, have been translated into twenty languages and have sold more than three million copies worldwide. In collaboration with her husband, historian Simon Sebag Montefiore, she also co-authored the children's series "The Royal Rabbits of London."
Montefiore's writing is deeply influenced by her personal experiences and love for nature. Born in England in 1970 and raised on a farm in Hampshire, she developed an early passion for storytelling, which flourished during her time in Argentina, where she lived as a young adult. Her novels frequently feature rural settings—whether by the sea or in the countryside—and explore themes of love, family, and self-discovery. In 2021, she ventured into comedy with the "Flappy" series, beginning with "Flappy Entertains," followed by "Flappy Investigates." Her upcoming adult series, starting with "Shadows in the Moonlight," introduces a Victorian-era mystery set in Cornwall.
A graduate of Exeter University, where she studied Spanish and Italian, Montefiore converted to Judaism in 1998 upon marrying her husband. She resides in London with their two children but often retreats to a cottage in Hampshire for inspiration. Her ability to craft emotionally resonant stories has earned her a dedicated readership, drawn to her evocative settings and richly developed characters.
