Sarah Perry is a bestselling English author, born in Chelmsford, Essex in 1979. Raised in a devoted Christian family, Perry's early life was largely devoid of access to culture, art, and writing. Instead, she filled her time with classic novels, classical music, poetry, and church-related activities. These early experiences, particularly her engagement with the King James Bible and other classic literature, have significantly influenced her writing style. After completing her Ph.D. in creative writing from Royal Holloway University, Perry began writing for various publications including the Guardian, Slightly Foxed, the Independent, and the Spectator.
Perry's debut novel, "After Me Comes the Flood," was published in 2014, followed by her second novel, "The Essex Serpent," in 2016. Her work has been well-received, with "The Essex Serpent" becoming a number one bestseller in the UK and earning several award nominations. In addition to her literary career, Perry has also been involved in nonfiction writing and publishing. She holds an M.F.A. in nonfiction from Columbia University and has served as publisher of Columbia: A Journal of Literature and Art. She has received fellowships from the Edward F. Albee Foundation and the U.S. Department of Education, and her prose has been published in various outlets.
In contrast to the above, there is another Sarah Perry, an American author and teacher, who co-founded To Illuminate Ministries, Inc. and Ignite Publishing with her husband, Joe. Perry, in this context, is a graduate of Rhema Bible Training Center and has a passion for publishing, taking, and sending the Gospel around the world. She has a particular interest in children's ministry and has authored and published several children's books, including "The Missionary Dogs," "The Preaching Donkey," and "Filled with Laughter." In addition, she has authored and published adult books such as "The Warrior Women" trilogy, "God's Girls" devotional, and "Warrior Words."
