Scott Turow is a highly acclaimed American author, best known for his legal thriller novels. Born in Chicago in 1949, Turow graduated with high honors from Amherst College in 1970 and went on to attend the Stanford University Creative Writing Center from 1970 to 1972. After teaching creative writing at Stanford for three years, Turow decided to pursue a career in law and graduated with honors from Harvard Law School in 1978.
After law school, Turow worked as an Assistant United States Attorney in Chicago from 1978 to 1986, where he gained valuable experience as a lead prosecutor in several high-profile federal trials. His legal background has proven to be an invaluable asset in his writing, as he is able to bring a unique perspective and insider's knowledge to his legal thriller novels. Three of his novels, Presumed Innocent, The Burden of Proof, and Reversible Errors, have been adapted into films.
In addition to his legal thriller novels, Turow has also written two nonfiction books, including One L, which reflects on his experience as a law student. His work has been translated into more than forty languages and has sold over thirty million copies worldwide. Turow has also contributed essays and op-ed pieces to various publications such as The New York Times, Washington Post, Vanity Fair, The New Yorker, and The Atlantic.
Today, Turow is a partner in the Chicago office of Sonnenschein, Nath & Rosenthal, an international law firm, where he practices white-collar criminal litigation. He represents individuals and companies in all phases of criminal matters. Despite his busy legal career, Turow continues to write, and his work remains popular with readers around the world. He lives outside Chicago.
