He has also collaborated with other notable authors, such as Ian Dennis, with whom he wrote a mystery series under the pen name T.F. Banks. Russell's love for writing began at a young age, and he decided to become an author when he was only ten years old. His passion for the fantasy genre was sparked years later while reading J.R.R. Tolkien's "Lord of the Rings."

Born in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, in 1952, Russell spent his early years in a cottage at the beach of Lake Ontario after his family moved to the city's outskirts when he was three. After attending university, he relocated to Vancouver and later to Vancouver Island, where he currently resides with his family. Russell published his first novel in 1991 and introduced a new Royal Navy hero, Charles Hayden, and the fictitious frigate HMS Themis in his historical naval novel "Under Enemy Colours" in 2007. In addition to his writing, Russell is involved with a swimming club in Arden Hills, Minnesota, where he mentors swimmers from Mounds View School.
