Sebastian Junger is an accomplished American author, renowned for his works such as "The Perfect Storm," "A Death in Belmont," "Tribe," and "Freedom." Born in Belmont, Massachusetts, Junger is the son of a painter, Ellen Sinclair, and a physicist, Miguel Chapero Junger. His father, who was born in Dresden, Germany, is of Spanish, Austrian, Italian, and Russian descent. Miguel immigrated to America during the second world war to escape persecution due to his Jewish ancestry and studied engineering at MIT.
Junger has achieved significant success in his writing career, earning the status of a #1 New York Times bestselling author for his books "War," "The Perfect Storm," "Fire," and "A Death in Belmont." In addition to his written work, Junger is also a respected filmmaker. Together with Tim Hetherington, he directed the Academy Award-nominated film "Restrepo," which won the Grand Jury Prize at Sundance. Junger's journalistic contributions have been recognized with several prestigious awards, including a National Magazine Award and an SAIS Novartis Prize for journalism.
