For the past two decades, Shaun Bythell has been the owner and operator of The Bookshop in Wigtown, Scotland's National Book Town. The Bookshop is known for being the largest second-hand bookshop in the country, and is a beloved destination for book lovers from all over. In addition to running the shop, Bythell is also one of the organizers of the Wigtown Book Festival.
In 2017, Bythell published "The Diary of a Bookseller," a humorous and entertaining account of the eccentric customers and staff that have passed through The Bookshop over the years. The book quickly became an international bestseller and has been translated into more than two dozen languages.
When not working amongst The Bookshop's mile of shelving, Bythell enjoys a variety of hobbies. He is known for his love of eavesdropping on customers and uploading book-themed re-workings of Sugarhill Gang songs to YouTube. Additionally, Bythell has been known to partake in the occasional shooting of Amazon Kindles in the wild.
Bythell has written two books, "The Diary of a Bookseller" and "Confessions of a Bookseller." His third book, "Seven Kinds of People you Find in Bookshops," is set to be released on November 5, 2020. With his unique blend of humor and insight, Bythell's writing offers a delightful look into the world of bookselling and the quirks of book lovers.
