Shelley Singer is a well-established American mystery author, who has written numerous novels and short stories under her name as well as her pseudonym, Lee Singer. She has a diverse writing portfolio, having written mysteries, science fiction, and mainstream fiction. One of her mysteries was nominated for the prestigious Shamus Award of the Private Eye Writers of America.\n \nSinger's career as a writer began after working as a reporter for UPI in Chicago. During her time as a journalist, she had the opportunity to meet several notable figures, including Nikita Khrushchev, Jimmy Hoffa, Xavier Cugat, Mrs. Billy Graham, Martin Luther King, Jr., and a condemned killer on death row. However, she never met Joseph Stalin.
Singer is a prolific writer, having published fourteen novels, with her most recent book, "Reveille," released in June 2018. It is the second book in the Blackjack trilogy, which features Rica Marin, a spy, torch singer, and mercenary in the dangerous world of 2066. Additionally, Singer has recently completed a novelized memoir titled "The Pepsi Cola 9th Street Grocery" and has started writing the third book in the Blackjack trilogy. She has also taught fiction writing classes and worked as a manuscript consultant.\n \nSinger's earlier works include the Samson series, which features Jake Samson, an unlicensed iconoclast, and his pal Rosie, who are private investigators in the San Francisco Bay Area. One of the four books in her Barrett Lake series, "Interview with Mattie," was nominated for a Shamus award. She has worked with several writers as a manuscript consultant and has had students become published authors. Singer grew up in Minneapolis, Minnesota, and began her working life as a reporter with UPI in Chicago. She has had a varied career and has met many famous people throughout her life.
