Sibylle Berg

Sibylle Berg is a well-known contemporary playwright and author in the German-speaking world. She was born in Weimar and spent her childhood there. After moving to the West in 1984, she had various jobs and began to write. Berg has a diverse background, having lived in several different countries, including Romania, Israel, Germany, and Switzerland. She has also studied a variety of subjects, including oceanography, and has practiced Judo, Kung Fu, and military diving. Berg identifies as non-binary and is part of the Straight Edge movement.\n \n Berg's writing career began while she was still studying. She has since become a prolific and successful author, with 27 plays, 15 novels, numerous anthologies and radio plays, and complete translations into 34 languages to her name. Her work has been widely recognized and honored with many awards, including the Swiss Book Prize for her latest novel "GRM - Brainfuck" and the Grand Prix Literature, the highest award given by Switzerland for literary work. Berg's plays, such as "Und dann kam Mirna" and "Es sagt mir nichts," have been celebrated by critics and audiences alike, and have earned her numerous awards, including the Else-Lasker-Schüler Drama Prize and the Nestroy Theater Prize. Her novels, such as "GRM - Brainfuck" and "Der Tag, an dem meine Frau einen Mann fand," have also been highly acclaimed. Berg's writing is known for its sharp social commentary and its exploration of themes such as identity, power, and the human condition. She currently lives in Zurich.
