Silvia Acevedo

Silvia Acevedo is an author of children's and young adult fiction, known for weaving magic, mythology, and mystery into her stories. Her works include the humorous "Mail-Order Monsters: Crash Course," the anthology contribution "The Haunted States of America," and the acclaimed "God Awful" trilogy, which blends Roman mythology with modern adventure. The final book in the series, "God Awful Rebel," earned her the Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators' Spark Award. Her writing has been praised by Kirkus Reviews, Midwest Book Review, and School Library Journal for its wit, imaginative plots, and dynamic storytelling.

Acevedo's career spans both publishing and journalism. She began in New York publishing, working at Scholastic and literary agency Writers House before transitioning to roles promoting diversity in the industry through organizations like Inkluded Academy. She also served in leadership positions with the Wisconsin chapter of the Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators and the Wisconsin Writers Association. Prior to her literary work, she spent over 25 years as a broadcast journalist, covering national and international events for outlets including CNN, local television, and newspapers in both English and Spanish.

Her upcoming project includes a short story in the 2024 anthology "The Haunted States of America," published by Henry Holt/Macmillan. Acevedo continues to engage with the literary community as a co-founder of Fantasy Art Workshop's Illustration Intensive, supporting aspiring illustrators.
