Silvia Moreno-Garcia

Silvia Moreno-Garcia is a highly accomplished Mexican-Canadian author, known for her distinctive voice in the genres of fantasy, horror, and literary fiction. She was born in Baja California and spent her childhood in various parts of the United States due to her parents' work in radio. Moreno-Garcia eventually settled in Mexico, where she met her husband and later immigrated to Canada. In addition to her writing career, she holds a master's degree in science and technology and has worked at the University of British Columbia Department of Communications.

Moreno-Garcia's passion for writing and publishing led her to co-found Innsmouth Free Press in 2009 with Paula Stiles, after noticing the lack of diversity in HP Lovecraft and weird fiction anthologies. Through Innsmouth Free Press, they published 15 issues of the "Innsmouth Magazine" and numerous anthologies and novels, leading to the award-winning Lovecraft Anthology. Moreno-Garcia's success in publishing and editing inspired her to focus on her own authorship, leading to the publication of her critically acclaimed debut novel, "Signal to Noise," in 2015, which won the Copper Cylinder Award and was a finalist for several other prestigious awards.

Some of Moreno-Garcia's notable works include "Gods of Jade and Shadow," "Certain Dark Things," "Untamed Shore," "Mexican Gothic," "The Daughter of Doctor Moreau," and "Silver Nitrate." She has also edited several successful anthologies, such as "She Walks in Shadows" (a.k.a. "Cthulhu's Daughters"), which won the World Fantasy Award. Moreno-Garcia's unique storytelling and rich cultural background have earned her a well-deserved reputation as a captivating and original author in the realms of speculative fiction.
