Sofía Segovia is a Mexican author, best known for her historical fiction and fantasy novels, such as "The Murmur of Bees" and "Tears of Amber." Segovia was born in Monterrey, Mexico, and studied Communication at the University of Monterrey. Although she initially intended to become a journalist, she soon discovered a passion for other forms of writing. Upon graduation, she worked as a communication and image coordinator for local political campaigns and as a ghostwriter. She has also written scripts for amateur theater and worked as a coordinator for literary workshops, with some of her students going on to publish their own fiction works.
Growing up, Segovia developed a love for reading, with some of her favorite novels including "Five Find Outers" by Enid Blyton, Robert Louis Stevenson’s "Treasure Island," and "The Jungle Book" by Rudyard Kipling. Her first novel, "Night of the Hurricane," was published in 2010, followed by the critically acclaimed "El Murmullo De Las Abejas" or "The Murmur of Bees" in English. The novel was a bestseller and received numerous accolades, including being named Discovery Literary of the Year by Penguin Random House GE and Novel of the Year by iTunes. It has since been translated into 19 languages.
Segovia's writing style is known for its imaginative and sensorial narrative, with a strong connection to reality. She explores and highlights lost pieces of Mexican history and identity in her work. In addition to her novels, she has also published a book of non-fiction, "El pasado como memoria del futuro" (The Past as Memory of the Future). Her international bestseller "The Murmur of Bees" was nominated for the National Book Award in 2019, and her audiobook narration won a Sovas Award in 2019. Her latest novel, "Tears of Amber," was an instant bestseller on Amazon.
Segovia currently lives and writes in the mountains of her hometown, Monterrey, Mexico, surrounded by her family, including her husband, three children, two dogs, and a cat. She finds inspiration in their joyful chaos and considers it essential to her writing process. Despite her love for travel, Segovia always looks forward to coming home to her family and furry friends.
