Stefan Malmström is a Swedish author, best known for his crime thriller novels, including his debut novel "Kult." Malmström grew up in Hässleholm in southern Sweden, where he was a talented athlete in various sports such as football, ice hockey, and orienteering.
When Malmström was 17, he was manipulated into joining the Church of Scientology, which led him to abandon his sports career. It took him seven years to leave the cult, and at 25, he decided to pursue a career in journalism. He enrolled at Linneaus University in Växjö to study journalism and began his professional career as a news journalist. He has worked for newspapers, radio stations, and television stations in Sweden. In addition to his journalism career, Malmström has been a partner in a production company and has produced, written scripts, and directed children's TV productions for Sweden's Television and TV4 in Sweden.
Malmström's writing is influenced by his past experiences. In 2012, he decided to explore his time in the cult and began writing his first book, "KULT," a scientology thriller based on real events. The book was published in 2017 and became the first in a series of three books that explore the theme of human manipulation and the ease with which people can be made to commit evil acts. When he's not writing or giving lectures for young adults about cults, Malmström enjoys spending time with his family, playing golf, working out, and reading biographies.
