Stella Duffy

Stella Duffy is a highly acclaimed English author, known for her work in science fiction, mystery, and historical fiction genres. She has written several book series, including the Saz Martin series, the Novel of Empress Theodora series, and the Roderick Alleyn series, which she co-wrote with author Ngaio Marsh. Duffy has also penned many standalone novels, novellas, and short story collections.

Duffy was born on March 2, 1963, in Woolwich, London, United Kingdom, but spent her formative years in New Zealand. She returned to London in the mid-1980s and has since made it her home. Throughout her career, Duffy has written seventeen novels, over seventy short stories, and fourteen plays. Her work has earned her several accolades, including twice winning the Stonewall Writer of the Year award and twice winning the CWA Short Story Dagger. Two of her novels, The Room of Lost Things and State of Happiness, were longlisted for the Orange Prize.

Apart from her writing career, Duffy is also a yoga teacher and a trainee Existential Psychotherapist. She co-founded the Fun Palaces campaign for cultural democracy, an initiative that aims to provide free and inclusive access to arts and sciences for everyone. Her latest novel, Lullaby Beach, was published by Virago. Duffy's ongoing doctoral research focuses on the embodied experience of being postmenopausal.
