Stephanie Laurens is a bestselling author of historical romance novels, best known for her series set during the British Regency era. She was born in Sri Lanka, then known as Ceylon, and later moved to Melbourne, Australia, where she completed her education, including earning a Ph.D. in Biochemistry. After working as a research scientist in England for four years, she returned to Australia and continued her scientific career, eventually heading her own research laboratory.
Laurens' writing career began as a hobby, crafting her own stories during nights and weekends. Her first novel, "Tangled Reins," was published after she realized she had run out of romance novels to read and decided to write her own. This marked the beginning of her successful career as a novelist, leading her to eventually leave scientific research and become a full-time writer. Her works are primarily historical romances set in the Regency time period, and she has published over 50 novels, with 29 of them becoming New York Times bestsellers.
Laurens' extensive travels have contributed to her ability to write vivid and authentic settings in her novels. She has drawn inspiration from her time in England, Scotland, India, and various other places she has visited. Her series, including the Cynster, Bastion Club, Black Cobra Quartet, and Casebook of Barnaby Adair novels, have been celebrated for their engaging storylines and rich historical detail. Currently, Laurens resides in Melbourne, where she spends her time writing, reading, and gardening when she is not working on her next novel.
